The Year That Was – 2016 for CAP Security Services

January 6, 2017

2016 has been a huge year for the CAP Security Services Team. From electrifying sporting matches at the Gabba, Suncorp Stadium, and the 1300SMILES Stadium, to local festivals, and concerts headlined by some of the biggest musical acts in the world — we’ve had a fantastically busy year and thank our clients, once again, for their support.

To celebrate the year that was, we thought we would recap some of the major events that we have been fortunate enough to participate in during 2016.

State of Origin Series 2016

State of Origin proves to be a continual success that takes Queensland and New South Wales by storm year by year, and the 2016 State of Origin Series was no exception.

With the best-of-three series celebrating its 36th year in operation, the crowds were expected to be some of the largest yet. Games one and three were held at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium, and game two was held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. Overall, the series attracted 193, 811 ecstatic, passionate rugby league fans.

As Suncorp’s security partner, our team were there, providing all static security and crowd control staff for Game Two, which attracted an attendance of 52, 292. Our team assisted patrons locate exits and entry points, find toilets and other stalls, controlled the crowd and of course, stood on the sidelines to ensure the security of the field and players.

This year CAP Security Services provided security for the QLD Origin Team. On May 19, our guard on duty, Chris, accompanied origin greats, Lote Tuqiri and Michael Hancock at the annual State of Origin meet and greet held on Queen Street Mall. Fans flocked to snap a photo with the Origin shield and the Maroons legends!

We saw defending champions, Queensland, take out the series. Can’t wait till next year!

Coldplay at Suncorp Stadium

Date: 6 December 2016coldplay-2

Crowd: 51, 059

Our Services: Licensed Crowd Control Officers, Event Security and Gate Staff, Licensed Security Officers, Artist Protection on Site.

One of the world’s most celebrated bands, Coldplay, returned to Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday December 6. The band welcomed 51, 059 ecstatic Brisbanites to their ‘Head Full of Dreams’ tour show, complete with fireworks, lasers and a spectacular light show. The support acts, Jess Kent and Lianne La Havas, were also a massive hit with the crowds.

Dark skies illuminating the wristbands of patrons,  and a Pyrotechnic beginning was just the start to a show that exploded through the roof, literally! The crowd was not let down by Chris Martin and his bandmates, who played all the hits including Hymn for the Weekend, The Hardest Part, Viva La Vida, and Yellow.  Safe to say that Coldplay’s reputation as one of the greatest bands was well and truly solidified.

While the crowd sang, swayed and danced, our security team were on hand to assist with crowd control, the safety of the stage and of course, the protection of the band and patrons.

Having been apart of Suncorp Stadium’s 17 concert experiences since they began in 2006, including Robbie Williams, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and U2, we were well equipped to handle Coldplay’s monstrous crowd (for the second time in 5 years!).

Next year, the big musical acts continue, with Justin Bieber coming to Suncorp on March 13, and Guns and Roses touring at QSAC on February 7- we can’t wait to work alongside these artists.

Date: 3 September 2016horrormoviecampoutcinemasection

Location: Sirromet Wines, Brisbane

Crowd: 1,400

Our Services: Licensed Crowd Control Officers, Event Security and Gate Staff, Licensed Security Officers.

On September 3rd, over 1400 horror fans descended on Sirromet Winery at Mt Cotton in Brisbane to enjoy scares, terror, gore and of course, horror films at the first instalment of The Horror Movie Camp-out in Queensland.

With horror actors, performances mazes and even horror-themed food and drinks, it’s little wonder that the Brisbane event drew the largest crowd from a capital city, beating Sydney and Melbourne.

Since this was the first event of its kind in Australia, our team had to use our past festival experience and strategise a security plan to suit the unique requirements and elements of the Horror Movie Campout.  A large part of the festival was held after nightfall, which meant that our team were required to be exercise prudence and vigilance at all times.

Fortunately there was a lot of camaraderie at the event, and our job was made easy by well behaved crowd. We look forward to seeing the event return in 2017.

What a great event to end the year! Cricket Australia announced that record crowds rolled up for Brisbane’s first ever day-night test at The Gabba, and the first of a three-match series between Australia and Pakistan.

Excited crowds were not disappointed, and got to see a classy century from Steve Smith, a close and thrilling match, and ultimately a victory for the Aussies.

The crowd behaved, and we had an incident-free 5 days of great cricket, so here’s hoping for more test action at the Gabba soon.
