It was an absolute pleasure to have a change in scenery at the Gabba, hosting a concert for the very first time – and it was a big one at that! Adele Live came to Brisbane on the weekend of the 4th and 5th of March and was a spectacle not to be missed. History was made for Brisbane City, The Gabba and CAP Security Services as Adele played to 2 capacity crowds in Brisbane’s biggest ever concert performances.

It was anticipated that an event of this size would shut down the city – cause transport issues, crowding pitfalls and traffic jams. But good planning by the major stakeholders meant that the event turned out to be one of the most organised and seamless events to date, and the city of Brisbane was stopped for all the right reasons.

For a venue that can hold 42,000 patrons, an additional 23,897 seats were shipped in for the sold out concert. Public transport was doubled other the two day period to meet the demands of all 60,000 Brisbane ticket holders. Happy to state that public transport and pre-planning worked seamlessly across the weekend event!

Local businesses such as coffee shops, hotels, bars and restaurants profited massively from the influx of people populating the Brisbane area, with $40 million dollars being injected into the economy over the two day period. While crowding was a major concern, the event ran smoothly with the odd stragglers picnicking outside the venue to sing-along at the gates.

CAP Security Services, as The Gabba’s security partner, were tasked with providing event security and crowd control at the concerts. Our team worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of all patrons, and some of our team were able to get extra close to the action! Our team worked exceptionally well faced with a completely new arena.

But of course, an event of this scale does not go without controversy. Post-concert, a turf war erupted with Queensland Cricket stating its fears that the Adele concert had damaged the pitches and put upcoming matches in jeopardy. But this debate won’t douse our spirits!

Throughout the Summer of 2017, the people of Brisbane have attended The Gabba and Suncorp Stadium and delivered record breaking crowds. Every step of the way, CAP Security Services has been on board to assist with professionalism and attentiveness in supplying a premier product for our client. We’ll continue to work with our clients to deliver exceptional services.
