CAP and Horn with belt

The world paused to watch one of the biggest boxing matches to hit the big stage. Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao did not disappoint their fans; putting up a great fight in a true show of skill, strength and utter tenacity. The match made history with underdog Jeff Horn becoming the new WBO Welterweight champion. The match drew a whopping 55,000 spectators to Suncorp Stadium, the largest crowd either boxer had competed in front of, and it was the very first outdoor boxing match for thousands of fans. The local support shown for Horn was astounding and presented to the world the true nature of Queenslander spirit.

As Suncorp’s security partner of over 20 years, our team was extremely proud to be involved in such a monumental event, broadcast throughout the world. We had staff covering multiple areas for the event; from traffic control to navigating boxers and their support crew through the crowd, and the team underwent extensive training to ensure they could effectively and efficiently maintain the safety of all patrons, boxers, and their crew.

Adele was the first major international artist to hold a concert at The Gabba, making it the largest concert in Queensland’s history. With 120,000 fans filling up seats over 2 nights; Adele Live was a concert to remember. The venue, which usually holds only 40,000 seats, had to import an astounding 23,897 extra seats to accommodate fans.

The concert made the news before it even started, with fears the event would shut down the city. However, with expert organisation and risk management, both nights were a smashing success. The concert was not only enjoyable for fans, but local businesses reaped the rewards of the pop star’s presence, making in excess of $40 million over the two nights.

As The Gabba’s long-time security partner; we were at the front line of security for both concerts. Our staff provided security services and crowd control after undergoing extensive training at the venue. With the increase in seating, the regular venue arrangement was adapted to accommodate and as such, our staff were tasked with familiarising themselves with the adjusted configuration. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to provide security for this memorable concert at The Gabba and keep all the fans safe.

On October 21, long time rivals the Qantas Wallabies and New Zealand All Blacks went head to head at Suncorp Stadium for the Bledisloe Cup. Beginning in the 1930s, the Bledisloe Cup is regarded as the greatest test of rivalry between the Australian and New Zealand Rugby Union teams. The Qantas Wallabies proved their exceptional skill in Game 3, in what was a nail-biting win for Australia; breaking their two-year losing streak.

As Suncorp Stadium’s long-term security partner, our staff are familiar with the processes and measures needed for a wide variety of events that have taken place at the venue. As always, we were privileged to have the opportunity to work at this highly prestigious competition and are always keen to watch the national pride and spirit in the crowd. We were tasked with the security of not only the fans, but the players as well; ensuring that all present were able to enjoy their night in a safe environment, win or lose.

StateofOrigin

State of Origin brings Queenslanders together from all across the state to watch the battle unfold with NSW. In one of Australia’s biggest sporting rivalries, fans were there to watch QLD take home the series win, after a loss in Game 1. Fans religiously flocked to the fields to support their teams in a sea of maroon and blue. Year after year Queensland shows camaraderie and dedication to the game; and despite missing key players, our boys banded together and showed true teamwork to take down NSW once again.

Providing security services for Suncorp Stadium continues to be a highlight for our staff, and servicing the first and third State of Origin games was no exception. However, with the heated battles between states on the field, these emotions can often be reflected by fans. Fights have broken out in the past; and with the possibility of a recurrence, our staff undertake thorough risk assessments to prepare for any situation.

We were privileged to have spent 2017 by your side working on these thrilling events! From all the staff at CAP Security Services, we hope you have had a great year. We look forward to 2018, with so many major events on the calendar. And finally, we’re extremely thankful for the ongoing support of our clients and here’s to many more years together!
