Venue Spotlight: Brisbane Racing Club

September 30, 2019

Report Andy
We’ve had the pleasure of working with the Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) since August 2018, and it’s been an exciting first year of partnering with them. BRC is the leading metropolitan race club in Queensland, hosting more than 70 events and over 200,000 patrons each year between the Doomben and Eagle Farm racecourses.

Eagle Farm Racecourse was established in 1865, and for over 150 years it has hosted some of the finest thoroughbreds in Australasia and welcomed hundreds of thousands of race enthusiasts. The historic track reopened this past December after a 2 ½ year hiatus due to renovations. This venue is now a world-class facility with over 35 function spaces, including the new Society Rooftop Bar.

Doomben Racecourse opened in 1933 and is also renowned for being one of the premier racing locations in Australia. It too has many function spaces, from trackside marquees to premium dining facilities. Locations such as The Village have recently been renovated to provide pop-up bars and food outlets for those enjoying the general admission experience.

Securing the Venue

The Brisbane Racing Club comes with its own unique security challenges. Thousands of patrons can arrive at any given race day, so crowd management is something that we take special care to execute.

The purpose of crowd management is to ensure the right people are in the right place, and crowd safety is our top priority. That means both ticketed guests inside the venue, and unticketed or rowdy individuals outside the venue. We implement crowd management tactics to prevent disorderly behaviour, such as fights that involve patrons under the influence.

Detailed planning is required for BRC as there are many different spaces to secure and a large area to cover. Security positions include external and internal guards, along with specialty guards and rovers. The external security guards are stationed at all gates, parking areas, and the surrounding streets; while the internal guards focus on ticketing, bag/ID checking and patrolling the licensed areas. Speciality guards are trained to escort jockeys and performers, and finally, we have rovers who cover multiple areas and go wherever they are needed.

The Brisbane Racing Club hosts many renowned racing events such as Girls Day Out, Mekka Wednesday, Country Music Raceday and Melbourne Cup Day. For larger events like these, CAP Security Services can provide 130-plus security guards. Other significant events at BRC include the Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival and the Spring Carnival. These racing events attract large crowds from Qld, interstate and overseas, not to mention media and industry professionals, and sometimes special guests and dignitaries, all hoping to have a memorable and safe day out. And let’s not forget the very important stars of the track, the racehorses. We take their safety very seriously and plan meticulously for all events.

There’s never a dull moment, but CAP Security Services is extremely proud to service the Brisbane Racing Club, and we hope to secure their venues for many years to come. We’ll see you at the upcoming Spring Carnival and Cox Plate Day in October and November.
